    • 1). Get a free program that can pull the DVD's ISO or disc image file from the disc, such as Magic DVD Copier, DVD Decrypter or DVDShrink. Download the free trial of Magic DVD Copier, which has all functions of the full program, from the Magic DVD Ripper page, DVD Decrypter from the manufacturer's website or DVDShrink from Softpedia and install the program to your computer.

    • 2). Place the DVD that you want to rip into the DVD drive of your computer and launch Magic DVD Copier, DVD Decrypter or DVDShrink. Click the radio button next to "Full Disc" in Magic DVD Copier; "Mode" and "IFO" in DVD Decrypter; or choose "Open Disk," select the DVD and then click "Full Disk" in DVDShrink. Click the three dots by "Target" in Magic DVD Copier; "Destination" folder in DVD Decrypter; or "Backup" and then "Hard Disk Folder" in DVDShrink to select a folder on your hard drive where you want to save the DVD's file or files.

    • 3). Press "Go" in Magic DVD Copier or "Decrypt" in DVD Decrypter to copy the IFO files from the disc to the folder on your computer. In DVDShrink, recode the DVD prior to the ripping process by going to the tab labeled "DVD Region" and choosing either the region code that represents your country, such as 1 for the U.S., or the "Region Free" box to make the disk playable on players from any region. Click "Target Device" once you select a region and go to the folder into which you want to save the single recoded ISO image file from the disc.

    • 4). Use Magic DVD Copier, DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn, which can be downloaded from software site CNET (CNET.com,) to burn region-free or recoded DVD files back onto disc. Though it provides the tools for manipulating DVD files, Magic DVD Copier does not have the ability to burn discs with changed region coding.

    • 5). Select the files ripped in Magic DVD Copier by clicking the three dots by "Source." In DVD Decrypter, go to the "Tools" menu, "IFO" and then "Region Patch," and select your region code or "Region Free" from the options. When prompted, navigate to the folder where you saved the DVD IFO files and select the main file for the DVD, which is generally the longest file in the list. Open an ISO file ripped in any program in ImgBurn by going to "Mode" and "Write," clicking the "Source" button to find the ISO on your computer, and then selecting "Tools," "Drive," "Regional Code," "Change," choosing the region and clicking "OK."

    • 6). Place a DVD-R in the DVD drive of your computer. Press "Write" in either DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the recoded DVD file or files to the blank disc.
