Avidemux Tutorial
- Open the video you want to edit by clicking the “Open” button on the Avidemux toolbar, browsing to a video file on your computer and double-clicking it. You can add a video to the end of the first video and combine them by clicking the “File” menu, selecting “Append” and browsing for a new video file. After editing your file, export it by clicking “File,” pointing to “Save” and selecting “Save Video.” The “Save Project” option only saves your Avidemux settings and doesn’t export the video.
- Select a new video format and audio format for the audio in the file using the drop-down boxes under Audio and Video at the left side of the Avidemux window. The “Copy” option in the drop-down boxes copies the original video or audio track and doesn’t transcode it to a new format, which is useful for editing a file without decreasing its audio or video quality. The drop-down box in the Format section selects the container format for the media file. Predefined formats for DVDs, Apple’s iPod and other devices are available from the “Auto” menu.
- Apply audio or video filters to your media file by clicking the “Filters” button in the Video or Audio section. The button is only available if you’re transcoding the file and not using the “Copy” option. You can use audio filters to perform time shifting on the audio or resample it. Avidemux contains more video filters than audio filters, which can crop the video, resize it, add effects and embed subtitles and adjust the video’s colors. Use the “Configure” button under Audio or Video to adjust the transcoding quality settings.
- Select a start point to edit out or move by clicking and dragging the progress slider at the bottom of the window and clicking the “A” toolbar button to mark the start point. Move the slider to an end point and click the “B” button to mark the end of the selection. Click “Edit” and select “Delete” to remove the selection from the video. You can also click “Edit” and select “Cute,” move the slider to another point in the video and select “Paste” from the Edit menu to move the selection.
