Creating a PDF file in Mac OS X is as easy as printing. In fact, that's all you really have to do to create a PDF file from any application that has a print option available from the Mac menu bar.

    • 2). In this example we will use a Pages family newsletter template. Select "File" in the menu bar and click on "Print." You will notice a standard print pop up window will draw under the options bar of the "Pages" template. In the lower left corner you will see a radio button labeled PDF with a triangle next to it.

    • 3). Clicking on the PDF triangle will bring up a number of options for printing a PDF. You can have many different options depending on the number of applications you have installed. The most common options include: "Open PDF in Preview," which will print the PDF file and open it in the Preview application; "Save as PDF," which will prompt you with a "Save" dialog box, asking where you wish to save the PDF file; "Mail PDF," which will create a smaller, less graphic intense PDF suitable for sending as an email attachment. Selecting the last option will print the PDF and automatically attach it to an email, ready for you to address and send.

    • 4). Some of the other options available to you in the PDF dialog box of the "Print" menu include: "Fax PDF," "Save as Postscript," "Save PDF to iPhoto," "Save as PDF X" and "PDF Confidential" (for encryption, compression and automatic attachment to email).

    • 5). To create the PDF select the option that best suits the job, and save the PDF to the directory of your choice or email it to your recipient.
