    What is Required?

    • To be authorized from Intel Corporation as a Centrino-classified, a laptop must meet vigorous standards. Intel has set aside specific guidelines for which processor, integrated wireless network and integrated video minimum specifications can be used to be classified as Intel Centrino as stated on their website.

Intel requires that all laptops using the Centrino name have, at a minimum, wireless N coverage. Intel recommends Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000 as the minimum. Intel's wireless integrated card not only give you speeds up 300 Mbps, but also uses 1/8th the power of competitor products. Centrino, by Intel, also means that your battery is going to last longer. This is a great example of how that works.

    Video Requirements

Intel now requires that all Centrino-labeled laptops are capable of HD (high-definition) graphics. Intel states that machines with Centrino technology will get up to 90 percent faster performance and over three times 3D improvement. When Centrino is on the machine, Intel wants to be sure that you are getting the best experience possible.

    The Processor

Intel uses multiple processors to cover the Centrino lineup. All of the processors are Intel Core 2 Duo, and they range in speeds from 2.26 to 3.06 GHz. Raw speed isn't all of what differentiates each of these CPUs; they also vary by the amount of on-board cache and wattage required to run them. The faster the speed, the more power you can count on it using.
