    Webmail overview

    • Roadrunner's webmail service operates much like Google's Gmail or Yahoo Mail. After browsing to the login page, you're presented with two forms to fill in: Your username and password. Once you've filled those in, you're taken to the webmail interface to read, write and organize your email. You stay logged in as long as you remain active. If you leave the computer for a period of time, you'll have to re-enter your username and password, depending on your browser and cookie settings.

    Passwords, browsers and cookies

    • A "cookie" is the technical term for a small piece of information transmitted from the website to your computer. It usually stores usernames and settings, but not passwords. For webmail to operate properly, it's important to have your computer's web browser set to accept cookies from Roadrunner's webmail site. Call up your web browser's option settings and select "privacy" and/or "security settings." You can choose from a variety of options, including which sites the browser will allow to set a cookie.

    Saving your password

    • New browsers include the option of saving both your username and password in a non-cookie, "Autofill" or "Autocomplete" format. When you browse to the page that requires a form to be filled out, the information will be filled out for you. If you're not worried about anyone else accessing your email without your permission, it's a great feature. However, it's important to change the settings in your browser's privacy or security settings (much as you changed cookie settings) to allow your browser to remember or forget the passwords for specific sites. Most browsers include a feature to prompt you before saving passwords for the first time. Some include a "master password" that's entered once per session to protect all the passwords saved in your browser. Either way you choose to take advantage of your browser's "autocomplete" feature for your Roadrunner password, you need to enable it in your browser's privacy or security settings. Also, make sure Roadrunner's webmail address isn't in any sort of exception list.
