How to Defrag a MacBook Pro 2010
- 1). Click on the "Power" button.
- 2). Select "Restart." Wait for computer to power down and reboot.
- 3). Note restart time and performance. Applications should open quickly and run smoothly.
- 1). Back up important files to an external hard drive or other source. Use a utility to clone your startup drive.
- 2). Format your drive using Apple's Disk Utility.
- 3). Reinstall Mac OSX and the backed up files.
- 1). Download a defragment tool from online.
- 2). Insert a blank CD/DVD into your disk drive, and create a boot disk out of the defragmenting software.
- 3). Start the computer from the disk. Run the software and scan the disk for fragmented files. Restart the MacBook Pro.
- 1). Copy all important files and documents from the MacBook Pro to an external storage device such as a flash drive, USB hard disk or ZIP drive.
- 2). Verify the files were successfully copied to storage. Trash the original files from the computer.
- 3). Copy the files from external storage back to computer. Files should be defragmented.
