Directions to Change the BIOS Battery in a 380ED Thinkpad
- 1). Power down your laptop. Unplug the AC power cable and disconnect all external devices and cables. Close the display panel and place the laptop face down on a flat surface.
- 2). Rotate the computer so the front edge is facing you. Pull straight up on the battery's release lever. Lift the battery pack out of its compartment in the lower right corner of the laptop.
- 3). Locate the memory compartment cover situated below the empty battery compartment. Loosen the single Phillips screw fastening the memory cover to the laptop.
- 4). Locate the tiny coin-cell battery located on the right side of the memory chip inside the compartment. Use a thin flat-head screwdriver to pry the battery out of its socket. Disconnect the battery's grounding cable from the motherboard.
- 5). Connect the new battery's grounding cable to the motherboard. Place the new battery into the empty socket until it is firmly secured in place.
- 6). Replace the memory compartment cover and its single Phillips screw. Place the battery pack inside its compartment. Press down on the battery until the release lever snaps the battery pack in place. Flip the laptop over. Reconnect all external devices and cables to the computer.
