    Using Visual Effects

    • In Ubuntu 10.04 you can turn on visual effects manually by going to System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects. The Visual Effects menu gives you the options of None, Normal and Extra. The more visual effects that are enabled, the more system resources they will use.

    Customizing Visual Effects

    • You can install the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings application to access additional visual effects. The download link is available in Resources. Once installed, you can access these effects in System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager. For further details about full customization of your Ubuntu desktop, consider UbuntuEyeCandy, available in Resources.

    Troubleshooting Visual Effects

    • Desktop Effects will not work if your graphics card does not support 3D acceleration. You may need to reinstall your graphics card driver, or consider an alternative driver. Also, an old or resource-light computer may not be able to run desktop effects.
