How to Change Display Drivers in Ubuntu
- 1). Click the "System" menu option on the panel at the top of your Ubuntu desktop.
- 2). Hover your mouse over "Administration," then click "Hardware Drivers" in the Administration menu that appears. On older versions of Ubuntu, click "Restricted Drivers" instead.
- 3). To authenticate yourself, type your password into the password prompt window that appears, then click "OK."
- 4). Switch to another display driver by clicking the check box next to the Hardware Drivers window. Choose and install only one display driver. Switch to a different version of the manufacturer's proprietary driver by clicking the check box next to that version and unchecking the box next to the version you are currently using. Switch to the display driver that comes with Ubuntu by unchecking all the boxes and uninstalling every display driver in this window. Don't worry; Ubuntu has its own drivers.
- 5). Download and install the driver. Click "Enable Driver" in the confirmation window that appears.
- 6). Enable the new display driver by restarting your computer. Click "Restart" when you receive a prompt to do so.
