How to Rewrite a CD As a DVD

    On a Mac

    • 1). Import the CD's data onto your computer. If it is an audio CD, you will need to rip the audio from the CD using an audio software program. See Step 2 for instructions on how to rip an audio CD. If it is a data CD, all you will need to do is copy the data from the CD and paste it onto your computer's hard drive.

    • 2). Insert the CD into your computer and open an audio program such as iTunes (iTunes is installed on all Macintosh computers). Click "Import Disc" to rip the CD onto your computer. To access these imported audio files, open the Finder, click "Music," double-click "iTunes" and double-click "iTunes Music."

    • 3). Eject the CD from your computer.

    • 4). Click the Finder. Then click "File" and select "New Burn Folder."

    • 5). Name the new burn folder, and then drag and drop the files that you copied from your CD into this burn folder.

    • 6). Click "Burn" after you have added all of the CD's files to the burn folder. Then insert a blank DVD-R into your computer.

    • 7). Eject the DVD-R after the burning process has finished.

    On a PC

    • 1). Import the CD's data onto your computer. If it is an audio CD, you will need to rip the audio from the CD using an audio software program. See Step 2 for instructions on how to rip an audio CD. If it is a data CD, all you will need to do is copy the data from the CD and paste it onto your computer's hard drive.

    • 2). Insert the CD into your computer and open an audio program such as Windows Media Player (Windows Media Player is installed on all PCs). Click "Rip" and then click "Start Rip" to import the CD onto your computer. To access these imported audio files, click the Start button and select "Music."

    • 3). Eject the CD from your computer and insert a blank DVD-R into your computer.

    • 4). Select the "Burn files to data disc" option from the dialogue box that appears after inserting the DVD-R.

    • 5). Name the data disk and then click "Show formatting options."

    • 6). Choose "Mastered," select "Next" and then drag and drop the files that you copied from your CD into the folder that appears.

    • 7). Click "Burn to disc" after you have added all of the CD's files to the burn folder.

    • 8). Eject the DVD-R after the burning process has finished.
