How to Use a Ribbon Cable on a Dell Dimension 4700 PC
- 1). Shut down the Dell Dimension 4700 and remove the power cord. Disconnect everything from the back of the computer and remove the case.
- 2). Locate the existing ribbon cable running between the hard drive and the Dimension's motherboard. Check the cable to see if there is a third connection between those two.
- 3). Slide the second hard drive or optical drive into an empty drive bay on the Dimension 4700. Fit the holes in the ribbon cable's third connection over the pins on the back of the drive.
- 4). Disconnect the ribbon cable from the Dimension's motherboard if the existing cable has only two connections. Fit the end of a three-connection ribbon cable over the pins on the motherboard.
- 5). Connect the middle connector on the ribbon cable over the pins on the new hard drive or optical drive. Connect the other end of the cable to the original hard drive.
