    Setting Toolbar for Bold Type in Word

    • 1). Open a blank Word document. The top toolbar should include a formatting toolbar with the style, font, text size, bold, italics and more.

    • 2). Click on "View, Toolbars, Formatting" if the toolbar is not visible on your page and check that there's a checkmark by "Formatting."

    • 3). Select the bold option ("B") from the toolbar to set your bold type.

    • 4). Customize the bold type and where you'd like to to appear by choosing "Toolbar Options" from the "Formatting" toolbar and clicking on "Add or Remove Buttons, Customize."

    • 5). Select "Format" under "Categories" within the "Commands" tab. Then click the "Rearrange Commands" button. In the "Rearrange Commands" dialog box, select the "Toolbars" options and choose "Formatting" from the drop-down list. You may move the bold type above or below another item in the "Formatting" toolbar or give it a different image/icon.

    • 6). Click on "OK" to accept the changes.

    Setting Toolbar for Bold Type in Outlook Express

    • 1). Open Outlook Express and select "Create Mail" to compose a new message. The formatting options will be grayed out until you place your cursor in the message body. Click within the body of your email so you'll have access to the options.

    • 2). Select "View, Toolbars, Formatting" if you don't see the "Formatting" toolbar.

    • 3). Switch your document to "Rich Text" if you still don't have access to the formatting by choosing "Formatting, Rich Text (HTML)." The toolbar should now be displayed.

    • 4). Select the bold option ("B") from the toolbar to set your bold type.
