How to Share Internet Connections for More Bandwidth
- 1). Power off all equipment that you will connect to the Cisco RV042 Dual Wide Area Network (WAN) Virtual Private Network (VPN) device. Plug the Ethernet cable for your primary ISP into the rear port on the RV042 labeled "Internet
and plug the Ethernet cable from your secondary ISP into the rear port labeled "DMZ/Internet." - 2). Plug each computer you need to load-balance into one of the four ports on the rear of the RV042 using Ethernet cables. Power on the RV042 and then power on the computers connected to the router.
- 3). Use an Internet browser software to connect to the RV042 by typing "http://192.168.1.1/" into the address bar. A login window will pop up. The default credentials for user name and password are "admin" in both fields.
- 4). Use the drop-down menus in the RV042's interface and configure WAN1 and WAN2. This information is provided by your ISP and will vary depending whether you are on digital subscriber line (DSL), cable modem, fiber optic service (FiOS) or some other type of connection. Once you have entered the information for each of your ISPs, hit "Save Settings."
- 5). Select the "System Management" tab. Under the sub-heading Dual WAN, ensure that "Load-balance (Auto Mode)" is selected. Save your settings again. Both Internet connections are now shared and all the network traffic is automatically load-balanced.
