How to Get Audio Devices
- 1). Purchase a sound card from a local computer store if you do not have one installed to your computer. A sound card is an audio device that enables the computer to emit sounds through your speakers or headset. It comes with an audio port where the sound cable of your speakers or headset is attached. Also purchase a computer speaker or headset. Have them tested first before buying them.
- 2). Install a sound card to your computer. Turn of the computer, unplug the power cable from the power source, and disconnect all cables and external peripherals from the computer. If you are using a desktop computer, use the screwdriver to open one panel of your computer casing. This will expose the motherboard, where you are supposed to attach the sound card.
- 3). Read the labels on the motherboard to locate the PCI or PCI-E slots. Attach the sound card into one of these slots. Press it down firmly but carefully until the sound card is secured to the slot.
- 4). Cover the computer, fasten the screws that you removed earlier and reconnect all cables. Turn on the computer and wait for it to recognize the new device installed.
- 5). Insert the sound card software disc into the CD/DVD-ROM, and then proceed to the installation process. You have to do this to install the "driver" of the sound card, in order for the device to function. Reboot the computer when the process is finished.
- 6). As soon as the device driver of your sound card is installed, you should see a volume controller displayed on your system tray, located at the lowermost right portion of the screen. Adjust the volume and make sure that the "Mute" option is not selected.
- 7). Connect the sound cable (usually comes with a green connector) to the audio port of your computer. Turn on the speakers and play an audio file to check if the device is working properly, or if the sound card was properly installed to the computer.
