    Operating System, Processor and Memory

    • Each Dell Latitude D600 and D610 are based on the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system. The processor is an Intel Pentium M chip. Although the processors share a 400-MHz data transfer speed, the one on the D600 has a 1.8GHz processing speed and 1MB Level 2 cache, and the D610's chip has a 2.13GHz processing speed and twice the storage cache amount for high-speed memory access. Each machine has a maximum system memory capacity of 2 GB. The D600, however, usually has at least 128MB of pre-installed memory; that of the D610 is 256MB.

    Storage and Multimedia

    • Each Dell Latitude D600 and D610 laptop has an 80-GB hard disk drive that spins at a speed of 5,400 revolutions per minute. The optical drive is a 24x-speed CD-ROM drive, used for playing CDs. The audio drivers -- Intel controller for the D600 and Sigmatel 9751 for the D610 -- adhere to Intel Corp.'s Audio Codec '97 standard and are motherboard-integrated. The video/graphics card comes from Advanced Micro Devices: the 32-MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 for the D600 and the 64-MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300 for the D610.

    Networking

    • For wired networking, the Dell Latitude D600 has an Ethernet connection that has a peak data transmission speed of 100 megabits per second. The one on the Latitude D610 is faster, at 1,000Mbps, or 1Gbps. Wireless networking comes from a Dell Wireless adapter, adhering to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' 802.11b standard. Also included is a modem, which has a 56-kilobits-per-second data transmission rate and compliance with the International Telecommunication Union's V.92 protocol.

    Size and Display

    • Each Dell Latitude D600 and D610 has a 14.1-inch screen with thin-film transistor technology. There are two choices of display quality: a 1,024-by-768-pixel resolution and a 1,400-by-1,050-pixel resolution, both with a 16.8-million color display. The D600 measures 12.4 inches in width, 10.1 inches in depth and 1.2 inches in height, with a weight of up to 5.16 lbs. The D610 has a width of 12.5 inches, depth of 10.5 inches and height of 1.4 inches, with a weight of 6.2 lbs.
