How to Locate the Hard Drive on a Compaq Presario
- 1). Shut your computer down and remove the power cord from the back of the unit. Locate the retaining screws on the back of the computer case. The Presario uses four retaining screws, one at each corner of the computer.
- 2). Remove the retaining screws and locate the case removal lever. This lever is located on the top of the case for desktop units and on the side for tower computers. Pull the case removal lever, remove the case cover and set it aside.
- 3). Look at the front of the computer and locate the drive bays. These bays are a series of small metal boxes into which the hard drive, CD-ROM and DVD drive are inserted. Check the back of the drive cages for a flat gray cable--this is the cable that connects to the hard drive.
- 4). Trace the flat gray cable from the back of the hard drive to the system board. The hard drive cable connects to the system board and allows the Compaq computer to read the data that drive contains.
