How to Install a Second Hard Drive in a Desktop Sony VAIO

    • 1). Shut down the operating system. Wait for the Sony VAIO to completely turn off, then remove the cables running into the rear of the computer.

    • 2). Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws in the back of the computer case. Place these screws in a safe location and open the case.

    • 3). Look toward the front of the computer. Here you can see the current hard drive and the other disc drives. Under the hard drive is an open docking station. Slide the new hard drive into this location.

    • 4). Plug the SATA cable into the connection port on the back of the new hard drive. Look at the original hard drive. You are able to see where the SATA cable runs and connects to the motherboard. Next to that connection is an additional SATA cable connection. Insert the opposite end of the SATA cable from the second hard drive.

    • 5). Close the computer case and replace the Phillips screws. Reconnect the cables and turn on the Sony VAIO desktop.

    • 6). Insert the driver installation CD into the computer's disc drive.When the driver installation wizard appears on the screen, accept the license agreement, leave the installation name and location as-is, then click "Install" to install the new hard drive's drivers. Restart the computer and you are ready to begin using the second hard drive.
