    • 1). Download the Virtual Server 2005 installer from Microsoft by opening the download page and clicking the "32-bit X86 Executable" link.

    • 2). Install Virtual Server 2005 by double-clicking the downloaded .exe file and following the instructions on your screen, selecting "Complete" on the Setup Type page, the default settings on the Configure Components page, and "Configure the Administration Website to Always Run as the Local System Account" on the website configuration page.

    • 3). Open the Virutal Server 2005 administration interface by opening a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, typing "http://localhost:1024/VirtualServer/VSWebApp.exe" into its address bar and pressing "Enter."

    • 4). Authenticate yourself by typing your user name and password into the boxes that appear and pressing "Enter."

    • 5). Start the virtual machine creation wizard by clicking "Create" under "Virtual Machines" in the navigation pane.

    • 6). Configure the virtual machine by typing a name and memory value into the corresponding boxes, clicking "Create a New Virtual Hard Disk," clicking the "Virtual Network Adapter" box and clicking a networking option and the "Create" button.

    • 7). Insert an operating installation CD into your computer's disc drive, click "Configure" and the virtual machine's name, click "Physical CD/DVD Drive" and click "OK."

    • 8). Turn on and view the virtual machine by pointing to the virtual machine's name under "Status" and clicking "Turn On," then pointing to the virtual machine's name again and clicking "Remote Control."

    • 9). Follow the onscreen instructions to install the guest operating system just as you would on a physical computer.
