Prohibition of Vegetable Gardens
- In efforts to avoid migration of pollutants into the water table and water supply, some local governments regulate the types and amounts of fertilizers that may be used in vegetable gardens.
- Municipalities may limit water usage in efforts to avoid shortages, especially during typically dry seasons and times of drought. Soaker hoses and sprinkler systems usually fall within these bans. Advisories of such restrictions may accompany weather reports on television, radio and the Internet.
- Homeowner associations may include water use restrictions that effectively prohibit or significantly limit residents' gardening activities. Covenants may address placement, visibility and size.
- State and local governments, homeowner associations and other neighborhood groups may prohibit or discourage roadside sales of garden produce.
