Let a Brighter Future Grow from the Purest Seeds

The world today stands at the brink of an environmental catastrophe. This is confirmed by none other than the United Nations Environment Program. While there are many debates on whether the catastrophe is manmade or not, most of the scientific community tend to side with the view than human activities are largely responsible for the changes in the climate. And in this climatic disaster, the genetically modified crops that we are planting and consuming widely are playing a good part, along with the industrial pollution that are wrecking havoc in the environment. That is why survival gardening with the help of prepper supplies is becoming gradually popular among the masses.

Now, one needs to understand how exactly the genetically modified crops are harmful to the environment. In order to understand it one needs to look at what genetic modifications are done, what methods are used to farm the genetically modified crops and what are the effects of their consumption. Like many other issues the scientific community is divided on most of these ones. Of course, the amount of debate seems to be quite high, even higher than natural, when a lot of money and position of important people depend on a scientific verdict. So no wonder that there are such heated debates on whether climate change is real and whether humans have a role to play in mitigating adverse climate effects, because a lot of practices, if found to be causing serious environmental damage, will be curbed by popular consensus and a lot of people will be facing serious consequences.

Certain genetic modifications are done to make the offspring seeds sterile so that the farmers cannot use the seeds to grow plants and they have to go back to the multinational for seeds again. This creates a dependence of the farmers on the multinationals for seeds. Further, if the pollen from such a sterile plant causes pollination in another non-sterile plant of the same species, then the offspring species too is most likely to be sterile. So such practices are harmful for the entire species, not only the farmers.

The farming methods of these genetically modified seeds require extensive irrigation and remarkable control over farming environment. The extensive irrigation required causes damage to biodiversity as certain regions are needed to be flooded while certain regions experience water shortage. Also, as the climate becomes extremely volatile, any storm or flood or changes in the weather which is not expected can be the cause of no yields, which means huge waste in terms of human labor and natural resources.

The pesticides and herbicides used are another story. They are poisonous and spraying such chemicals to the ground has harmful consequences for the soil and the organisms living there. These chemicals are often thought to be carcinogenic. And consumption of genetically modified crops grown using pesticides and herbicides can be quite harmful for health. So, the environmentally conscious people are fighting back with the help of survivalseedbank. With seed banks one can now preserve local varieties grown with the help of prepper supplies.
