How to Control the Citrus Whitefly

    • 1). Introduce natural predators in to the citrus crop environment. Asian lady beetles, minute pirate bugs, lacewings, and bigeyed bugs all love to feast on citrus whiteflies and will keep their population under control.

    • 2). Vacuum up all of the citrus whiteflies you see with a hand-held vacuum. Look underneath of the fruit, as well as the leaves. Place the vacuum cleaner's bag in a plastic freezer bag and set it in the freezer for 24 hours. Discard with the trash. This method will control small citrus whitefly populations.

    • 3). Set commercial sticky traps around your citrus plants. Sticky traps will not totally eliminate the citrus whiteflies, but they will keep the population under control. You will need to replace the traps with fresh ones once they become full.

    • 4). Spray your citrus crops with an insecticidal soap. Insecticidal soaps are preferred over chemical insecticides because the citrus plants will not absorb any harmful chemicals. Saturate the citrus crops, making sure to spray underneath of the fruit and it's leaves.
