How to Take a Musty Smell From a Couch
- 1). Protect yourself from releasing mold spores by putting on gloves, goggles and a dust mask. Move the couch outdoors to avoid contaminating the house.
- 2). Brush the whole couch vigorously with a whiskbroom to dislodge loose mold spores. Use a shop vacuum to extract any loose spores you may have missed.
- 3). Concoct a mold-killing solution of 1 cup water and 1 cup denatured alcohol. Mix the alcohol solution in a container.
- 4). Dip a rag in the alcohol solution. Squeeze the rag to drain out any excess liquid. Wipe the slightly damp rag over the whole couch to kill any lingering mold spores. Do not rinse the upholstery.
- 5). Keep the couch outdoors in a sunny, breezy area to air-dry completely. Sunlight and air kill mold spores.
