Learning how to control mealybugs can really help you take a little better care of your beautiful plants.
You are probably wondering what exactly a mealybug is so lets first learn about them.
What is a mealybug? A mealybug is a tiny little insect that lives off of the fluids produced within the leaves and stems of your plants.
They appear to look like little pieces of cotton on your plant yet their mouths will pierce right into the main parts of your plants.
They steal the plants natural and essential nutrients which in due time cause them to wither and die.
Where to find them? Mealybugs tend to be on the newer growth of plants or underneath the leaves and leaf joints.
They generally can be found on all areas of the plants but the main areas that they'll adventure to are newly developed growths and on the underside of leaves and stems.
How do you know you have mealybugs? This is quite simple.
When your plant is being affected by mealybugs the leaves will begin to turn a yellowish color and begin to look sick.
They could also appear to have a sap like substance on the leaves and/or stems as to where the mealybugs once were.
How to control mealybugs? It actually isn't too difficult to learn how to control mealybugs but you need to be careful when doing it so you don't actually kill off the plant for yourself.
When you are trying to take back control of your plant use such things that do not have any chemicals or toxins that could harm the plant.
Some things you could consider using is vinegar and water.
Spray your plant with a mixture of vinegar and water in the evening and cover it with a plastic bag.
Leave the bag on the plant over night and in the morning the majority of the mealybugs should be gone.
There are many people that recommend using certain chemical substances for the killing of mealybugs but they forget to explain to you that it will actually kill off the plant as well which is why it is recommended to avoid using any substances that have any chemicals or toxins.
Plants are very fragile beings and the slightest amounts of chemicals and toxins could do a fair amount of damage and kill them.
Don't kill your plants and use natural organic options first.
