How to Paint Rooms With Crown Moulding
- 1). Remove cobwebs from the corners of the room and along the edge of the ceiling with a feather duster. Wipe dust off the walls and woodwork with a damp rag.
- 2). Apply a bead of paintable acrylic caulk along the crown moulding with a caulk gun if there are any gaps. Remove excess caulk with a damp rag.
- 3). Paint the ceiling first with a latex paint in a flat finish. Paint around the edges of the ceiling with a three-inch flat synthetic brush. Pour paint in a paint pan and apply it to the rest of the ceiling with a paint roller. Apply a single coat of paint to freshen up an existing color. Use two coats of paint if the color is new shade.
- 4). Apply semi-gloss latex paint to the crown moulding with a two-inch angled synthetic sash brush. An angled brush will help you paint a sharp line. Do not get any trim paint on the freshly painted ceiling. Apply two coats of paint if necessary.
- 5). Paint the walls with flat latex paint. Take care when brushing the edge of the wall near crown moulding. Paint the majority of the room with a paint roller, reserving the brush for areas that the roller cannot reach. Apply two coats of paint.
- 6). Paint the rest of the trim with semi-gloss paint and an angled brush. Avoid getting paint on the walls. If necessary, you can go back and paint any touch-ups at the end.
