How to Paint Brick Mocha
- 1). Wash the surface with a sponge dipped in soapy water. This is especially important for outdoor brick surfaces. Any lingering dirt deposits will show through the primer and mocha paint if you don't clean ahead of time.
- 2). Cover nearby objects with a drop cloth and protect adjoining items with painter's tape.
- 3). Apply masonry sealer with a roller brush with a medium or heavy nap. Masonry sealant is a special kind of primer that adheres well to naturally porous surfaces. A roller with extra nap further helps drive paint into surfaces a more even seal.
- 4). Wait for the sealer to cure based on the drying times provided on the product's container. Even if the sealer looks dry, it may still be tacky if you don't follow the manufacturer's recommended drying times.
- 5). Apply a coat of elastomeric wall coating (EWC) latex mocha paint to the surface using a regular foam roller. EWC paint expands and contracts better than a normal latex paint, working to fill small cracks and divots in the brickwork. EWC paint provides thick coverage, and often one coat is enough.
- 6). Roll a second coat of paint on the wall if additional coverage is necessary.
- 7). Remove any painter's tape and drop clothes after 24 hours.
