The Power Of The Reverse Crunch

For an added intensity while contracting your lower midsection during your ab workouts, you can try to perform a reverse crunch on a declined surface; in this position your lower abdominal area will effectively bear the bulk of the contractions during the crunches.
This is a more advanced variation of your ab workouts, as you use the weight of your lower body as resistance in the exercise.
Be sure that you observe the proper posture as you do them in order to get the best results from the routines.
Start by first lying on your back against an inclined exercise bench.
Get a firm grip of the top of the bench over your head with both of your hands and keep your head rested on the bench while looking forward and towards the ceiling.
Then lift your legs until they are almost perpendicular to the bench; keep your knees unlocked.
Continue the ab workouts by slowly bringing your hips towards your head until they are at about six to eight inches from the bench (keep your feet together during the movements for an added stability).
See to it that your spine remains in contact with the bench during the whole process.
As soon as you have curled your lower body as close to your chest as you comfortably can, finish off them by slowly uncurling it towards your original position.
It is more effective to perform them with the knees together and bent, rather than straight.
This is an easier position to begin with for a novice, and then you can gradually straighten your legs as you progress upwards to increased endurance levels in your ab workouts.
You can also dramatically increase the resistance on your lower abdominals by increasing the angle of the decline in your ab workouts.
The steeper the angle, the greater the resistance.
Before you begin your quest towards the ultimate six-pack, you must establish a solid foundation to work on.
The foundation for any workout program -whether it's targeting your whole body or targeting your abdominals solely- must start with a strong core.
Most individuals fail to reach their goals because their weak core limits their overall stamina and strength.
