Advanced Calf Training For Big Calves

For many bodybuilders, building big calves is a struggle.
At first, conventional calf exercises will produce some growth.
However, your calf muscles are extremely resilient and adapt quickly to training loads.
For additional growth, you must adopt an advanced calf training philosophy and drastically change the way you train your calves.
To do this, you must incorporate the following key elements into your calf workouts.
1.
Use HIT Techniques
- HIT stands for High Intensity Training.
The use of High Intensity Training techniques such as rest-pause, drop sets and triple add sets are the very foundation of an advanced calf training program.
These intense techniques stimulate more muscle fiber growth.
Each HIT technique is incorporated into your routine to exhaust both Type I and Type II muscle fibers in your calves.
While a steady regimen of HIT techniques is not recommended for other body parts such as arms, chest, shoulders, lats, etc, it's "what the doctor ordered" for stimulating more growth in your calves.
Your calf muscles adapt and recover very quickly and it's difficult to overtrain them.
This is why the HIT techniques are the basis of advanced calf training.
2.
Train To Failure
- To promote additional calf muscle growth, you must push yourself to failure on at least the last set of a rest-pause, drop set or triple add set exercise.
This will require that you push into the "pain zone" and train the muscle to complete exhaustion.
Only in this way can your calf muscle fibers be stimulated to grow.
They must be challenged "to the max"! 3.
Change It Up
- A steady regimen of the same exercises, same rep schemes, and same training techniques will cause the calf muscles to become accustomed to the training program.
When this happens, the calf muscle growth diminishes or halts.
You must keep the calf muscles from becoming accustomed to your training regimen by "changing up" the exercises, repetition ranges, and techniques in every workout.
You must add variety to your calf workouts.
An advanced calf training program can be distinguished from a conventional training program by the addition of the above three elements.
To add more size to your calves, you must progressively increase the intensity and incorporate more variety in your routines.
