Though this might seem quite vague, this relationship secret is very vital to every relationship; whether making it or breaking it.

The art of knowing is a very complex secret that when it becomes mastered, the relationship being held is strengthened up to an extent that it becomes unbreakable; this kind of relationship is cherished by both individuals in the relationship and it is sure to bring them more happiness as a couple or even as individuals.

Knowing when to listen is a secret that requires the individual in a relationship to put his or her feelings behind and listen to what his or her partner says. Listening to the other end makes the partner know things about what his or her partner feels. He or she might feel quite angry because the partner does not listen to him or her. Listening gives the one who listens an advantage of a knowledge only given to those who have patient ears. The silence and understanding of a listener can also be a soothing part to the one who is speaking. Sitting down and talking it over is still an effective way of maintaining a relationship.

Knowing when to act is also another knowing secret in which the individual in the relationship, after listening and finding out the possible solutions that can be done, then acts out or does a certain action that can either make or break the relationship he or she is in. If that individual has listened in the first place, then the relationship he or she is in will more likely be mended.

An individual who knows when to act while in a relationship can easily sway things into the right or even the wrong path. Knowing when to say sorry after realizing a mistake can shorten the span of time where the partner musters up his or her pride and gives his or her partner the silent treatment. When somebody in a relationship knows when to put his or her guard down, the relationship he or she is in will more likely last because he or she knows when to open up to his or her partner.

And if everything has already been said and done and nothing seems to be working anymore, the last thing an individual in a relationship should know is when to let go. Knowing when to stop something that seems to have gone out of hand is a complex thing that is rarely mastered; and this has become one of the main reasons why relationships end up bitterly. Knowing when to let go means knowing when to forgive a partner for anything he or she has done, accepting his or her mistakes, and disregarding the negative feelings he or she has felt before letting go of the relationship and still ending up as friends after everything that has happened.

Letting go in a relationship does not mean breaking off the connection between two individuals; letting go means building a relationship in a more suitable scale for the individuals in the relationship; perhaps they might have realized that they are better off as friends rather than lovers.
