Identification

• Neurontin is an anti-convulsant medication that works by affecting the chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved with seizures and pain. It is recommended for the treatment of adults and children at least 12 years old. Neurontin also may be used in conjunction with other medications in the treatment of partial seizures. Neurontin has been found to be effective in treating pain associated with conditions such as the herpes virus or shingles.
  
  

Side Effects

• Some side effects have been associated with the use of Neurontin. These may be serious and include increased seizure activity, flu symptoms, confusion, swelling of your feet and ankles, rapid eye movement, tremors and bruising easily. Some side effects may be increased when used in children. Call your doctor if your child has any of the following side effects after taking this medication: memory problems, changes in mood or behavior, hostile behavior and difficulty concentrating.

• Lyrica is also an anti-convulsant medication. Lyrica works by slowing down the impulses in the brain that cause seizure activity. Lyrica is also effective in treating pain by affecting the chemicals in the brain that send pain signals to the brain.
  
  

Side Effects

• There have been some side effects reported with the use of Lyrica. These may be serious and include dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, loss of balance, skin rash, itching, problems with concentration, dry mouth, constipation, stomach pain, increased appetite and joint pain. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience easy bruising or bleeding, swelling in your hands or feet, rapid weight gain or muscle weakness with fever.
  
  

Warning

• When taking Neurontin or Lyrica, contact your doctor if you experience rash, hives, wheezing or difficulty breathing. This may be a sign of a life-threatening allergic reaction. Tell your doctor about any medications you take before taking Neurontin or Lyrica, to avoid possible dangerous drug interactions.
