    • 1). Open a "Command Prompt" session by clicking to open the Windows XP Start menu, then navigating to "Accessories." Select the "Command Prompt" icon.

    • 2). Run "command.exe" from the Command Prompt window. Type "convert" with the drive letter to be converted and the parameter "/fs:ntfs". For example, if the "C" drive was to be converted, the syntax would be "convert C: /fs:ntfs". Press Enter to execute.

    • 3). Restart the computer if prompted. This will happen if the drive to be converted is the drive on which Windows resides.

    • 4). Type the name of the volume label when prompted to do so and press Enter. Conversion of the volume will begin.

    • 5). Close the Commend Prompt session when the conversion has completed. The system will indicate when the conversion is finished.
