How to Keep Windows From Disk Checking on Startup
- 1). Click the "Start" button and select "Programs." Point to "Accessories" and then "System Tools." Click on "Scheduled Tasks" to open the Scheduled Tasks window.
- 2). Look for "Autochk" or "Chkdsk" in the list of currently scheduled tasks. Click to select the file in the task list.
- 3). Right-click the task and select "Delete."
- 4). Close the "Task Scheduler" and restart the computer. If Disk Checking resumes on startup, of if you were unable to find "Autochk" or "Chkdsk" in the list of currently scheduled tasks, move on to the next section.
- 1). Click the "Start" button and click "Run."
- 2). Type "regedit" (without quotes) into the "Open" box and click "OK." The Windows Registry Editor will open.
- 3). Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder by clicking the arrow to its left. Expand the "System" folder, then the "CurrentControlSet" folder, then the "Control" folder and finally the "Session Manager" folder.
- 4). Right-click "BootExecute" in the main window of the Registry Editor. Select "Modify." Type "autocheck autochk *" (including the asterisk but without quotation marks) into the "Value Data" box and click "OK."
- 5). Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer. If Disk Checking resumes on startup, your hard disk may be damaged. Contact your computer manufacturer or a reputable computer repair facility.
