How to Make a Restore Disk for XP Windows Home Edition
- 1). Create a new folder on your desktop labeled "Restore Disk."
- 2). Insert the Windows XP disk into your computer.
- 3). Double-click on "My Computer," select "Tools," click "Folder Options," select the "View" tab and select the option to "Show Hidden Files."
- 4). Double-click on your CD drive, highlight all files and copy them to the "Restore Disk" folder on your desktop.
- 5). Open the Driver Magician program (see Resources), and select the option to "Extract Drivers." Extract the drivers to your "Restore Disk" folder.
- 6). Navigate through your hard drive, and copy any other critical documents to the "Restore Disk" folder.
- 7). Open the Boot Image Extractor program (see Resources), and type in "bbie x:" (where "x" is the drive letter of your CD drive). Copy the extracted file to your "Restore Disk" folder.
- 8). Open your CD-burning program, and select the option to create a "Bootable CD." Set the boot image to the file downloaded during step 7, drag and drop all files contained in the "Restore Disk" folder to the CD queue, and select the "Burn" button.
