    • 1). Close out other Internet browsers while using AOL 9.5. The other browsers can cause issues with the connection of AOL that make the browser slow down or even stop connecting to websites.

    • 2). Upgrade to a DSL Internet service if you are running a dial-up connection. If your Internet speed is lower than 28.8 Kbps, the browser will not function.

    • 3). Delete excess programs and files from your Windows XP computer if the hard drive is almost full. You need at least 400 megabytes of space to successfully run the AOL program.

    • 4). Avoid running multiple tabs in AOL 9.5 at once. With a slower Internet connection the multiple tabs take up bandwidth, causing the browser to slow or even stop.

    • 5). Delete the program from your computer and reinstall it. It is possible your AOL 9.5 has become corrupt or is missing important files. Delete the program by selecting "Start," then "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs." Select "AOL 9.5," then click "Remove." You can download the program again from AOL.com.
