What Is the Difference Between Sweet Gums & Oak Trees?
Leaves
- American sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua) has scented leaves that resemble the palmate leaves of a maple. The leaves are bright green with a serrated edge. Oaks (Quercus sp.) have a variety of leaf types. The most common is a deeply lobed leaf, but oaks also have leaves similar to a willow and oval leaves like an aspen.
