Most of us know that protein is important and especially so when you are on juice. There are some considerations you must understand to get the most out of your protein diet.

Eventually you'll see that you need to have protein in every meal you have throughout the day. Lets start with night time. During the sleep period is when your body affect most of the repairs to damage causes by high intensity weight training. The main thing to consider is that your body need to maintain a specific level of what is referred to as the amino-acid pool in the blood. As the night wears on, you'll find that instead of repairing and building muscle, you start to break muscle down again. This is because the amino acid pool typically begins to dip during the later stages of sleep. Athletes have known this for a long time and that explains why serious athletes will wake up in the middle of the night to have additional protein.

From this two things arise you need to think about. Firstly, it makes sense to have protein last thing at night so that the body has an available supply. You don't want to have any carbs because your body is going into a state of rest so this will be converted to fat. Pure protein shakes are the answer. Secondly, you'll need to consider that the sleep period is also the longest time in the day that you without food. The word breakfast literally means to "break the fast." Because your body will be in a depleted state as far as protein goes first thing in the morning, it makes sense that you should have protein for breakfast as well. Your blood sugar level will be lowest at this time so carbs will also be helpful.

Consider what would happen to the amino-acid pool if you did not have a protein component during breakfast. If your last protein meal was before you want to bed, and most people skip this meal, me included, and then your last meal was probably at around 8 pm. At 8am the following morning, you will have been without protein for 12 hours. Skip your breakfast protein and your next protein meal will be around 1 pm. That means that you will have been without protein for around 16 hours. This is most definitely placing you in a catabolic state and your body will be metabolising its largest stores of protein to keep the amino-acid pool going, your muscles. Not the desired result if you are trying to build muscle.

The amino-acid pool need to me maintained to avoid the body breaking down muscle. This means that you should be eating protein throughout the day. Your body does not metabolise more than about 20-25 grams of protein at a time. This means that larges serving of protein does not necessarily help you. Coupled with a desired intake of about 1.5 to 2.5 grams of protein per kg of desired bodyweight, you quickly see that you have to have multiple protein meals throughout the day to get your desired amount in. The good news here is that it will speed up your metabolism and help you lose fat.
