Imagine fresh tomatoes on your evening salad and bright berries on your morning cereal.
It is possible to the freshest and healthiest food right from your backyard.
If you want a garden, one of the best places to start is your own backyard.
This is a great place to start gardening for the first time.
It will be private and if fenced in will keep out quite a bit of the larger pests that might otherwise ruin your efforts.
The biggest mistake that most people make when getting started is using the soil in their yard.
This soil lacks nutrition and is full of fertilizers and chemicals for growing grass not other things.
Control your soil.
This means buying or making your own mix exclusively for your plants.
It will make growing anything much easier.
Try to separate off the garden from the rest of the yard.
This might mean using wood or cement blocks to make sure that there is a barrier.
The reason is that you don't want weeds or grass from your yard to move in and take over your garden.
Learn about sunlight hours and your plants.
You need to get an idea about how much sunlight the parts of your yard get.
You then will have to grow plants based upon the sunlight that you have in your yard.
Some things might not get enough light while others might be getting too much.
Raised bed gardens work better.
You won't get into the problem of making your garden in a low spot of the yard and getting flooding.
A raised bed makes controlling the soil and moisture much easier.
Consider also using containers as well.
The reason, especially when new to gardening, is that you will be able to have control over your sunlight as well.
If you messed up on your estimates, you can simply move the container with the plant in it to a different part of the yard to give it the light that it really needs.
