    Common Side Effects

    • There are various common Trifluoperazine side effects that are considered to be minor, since they usually subside soon after people start using the medication. If you have any of these side effects, however, and they are persistent or keep worsening, you need to speak with your doctor about them. These common side effects include blurry vision, dizziness, drowsiness, problems urinating, sleeplessness, appetite loss or increased appetite, weakness of the muscles, sexual problems, nasal congestion, menstrual problems (such as skipped periods), skin discoloration, constipation, headaches, and dry mouth.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Some people might also experience severe side effects of this medicine, although they are uncommon. Severe side effects can be dangerous, so they require emergency medical attention. These side effects are low blood pressure, discharge from the breasts, increased breast size, extreme constipation, arrhythmia, seizures, psychotic symptoms getting worse, jaundice, hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, and painful erections.

    Extrapyramidal Signs

    • Extrapyramidal signs are serious side effects of Trifluoperazine. They manifest themselves in symptoms such as muscle contractions or tension, abnormal tongue, facial, or bodily motions, and internal restlessness or jitters. If you notice any of these symptoms, you need to seek emergency medical assistance as soon as possible.

    Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

    • Symptoms of the condition neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a neurologic disorder) are also possible severe side effects of Trifluoperazine. This syndrome is an unlikely but possibly dangerous side effect of the medication, so if you have any signs of the condition, you need to immediately get medical help. Some signs of this syndrome include muscle stiffness, tachycardia, confusion, disorientation, sweating, high fever, and irregular blood pressure or pulse.

    Allergic Reaction

    • Serious allergic reactions are uncommon, but can be very severe. Some signs of allergic reaction to this medication are abnormal swelling, unusual rash on the skin, itching, breaking out into hives, having a hard time swallowing or breathing, and wheezing. If you have any of these symptoms, you need to get medical care immediately.
