    • 1). Make three chain stitches and join the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch to form a ring. Make one chain and then make six single crochet stitches into this ring, then join the last to the first with a slip stitch.

    • 2). Make one chain stitch, then make two single crochet stitches in every stitch around the circle. Join with a slip stitch to close the round.

    • 3). Make one chain, then repeat this pattern around the circle: make two single crochets in the first stitch followed by one single crochet in the next stitch. Close the circle with a slip stitch; you will have 18 stitches in your hat.

    • 4). Make one chain, then follow this pattern around the circle: make two single crochets in the first stitch followed by one single crochet in each of the next two stitches. Make a slip stitch to close the round for a total of 24 stitches.

    • 5). Make one chain, then make one single crochet stitch in every stitch around. Join with a slip stitch. Repeat this step until the hat measures approximately 11 to 11.5 inches tall.

    • 6). Cut the working yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail. Pull this tail all the way through your final slip stitch to tighten it, then thread the tail onto an embroidery needle. Weave the tail in and out of the stitches on the inside of the hat, then repeat with any remaining yarn tails to hide them in your work.
