    • 1). Measure the weight of a substance.

    • 2). Convert the weight to kilograms. If the volume is measured in grams, then divide it by 1,000. If the weight is given in pounds, then multiply the value by 0.4536. For example, 15.3 pounds will convert to 15.3 x 0.4536 or 6.94 kilograms.

    • 3). Measure the volume of the substance.

    • 4). Convert the volume to cubic meters. If the volume is given in liters, then divide it by 1,000. If it is measured in cubic feet, then multiply the value by 0.0283. For example, 0.15 cubic feet will convert to 0.15 x 0.0283 = 0.00425 cubic meters.

    • 5). Divide the weight (in kg) by the volume (in cubic meters) to calculate the density of the substance. In that example, the density is 6.94 / 0.00425 = 1632.94 kg/cubic meters.
