How to Stain Brick to Match
- 1). Open the brick stain kit and unpack the carrier solution, the pigment and the fixing agent.
- 2). Put on rubber gloves and pour water into a bucket as directed by the stain-kit manufacturer. The amount of water will vary by manufacturer, but in general, use 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water.
- 3). Pour the carrier solution into the bucket, then pour in the pigment. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a paint stirrer.
- 4). Add the fixing agent and stir the mixture again. Pour in more water to lighten the brick stain, if necessary.
- 5). Test the brick stain on one brick in an inconspicuous place by brushing it onto the brick with a paintbrush. Let the stain dry on the test spot and add more water to the mixture if still too dark.
- 6). Apply the brick stain over your bricks with a paintbrush and allow to dry as long as suggested by the manufacturer.
- 7). Apply a coat of masonry and brick sealer with a clean paintbrush to protect the stain color once the stain has dried.
