How to Remove the AC Compressor in a Camaro 1997
- 1). Remove the Freon from the system by taking it to a professional facility that is equipped to do this. It is illegal to discharge Freon gas into the atmosphere. Most facilities will do this for you at no charge.
- 2). Remove the negative terminal from the battery by loosening the terminal bolt with the proper wrench.
- 3). Disconnect the electrical connection on the compressor by releasing the clip on the back of the unit and pulling the plug.
- 4). Disconnect both refrigerant lines from the compressor using the proper wrench and turning it counterclockwise.
- 5). Loosen the bolt on the adjustable bracket on the compressor and then push the compressor towards the engine. This will loosen the belt, so you can pull it off the compressor pulley.
- 6). Remove the bolts holding the compressor to the engine using the proper socket and ratchet.
- 7). Lift the compressor out of the engine compartment.
