The first model change for the Mustang occurred in 1967 as Ford was facing increased pressure from Chevrolet's upcoming Camaro and Plymouth's Barracuda. The Mustang was lengthened and widened, yet retained the wheelbase of the earlier models. As a result, the 1967 Mustang's curb weight increased slightly, a trend that would continue until 1974. Three models were produced in 1967: the coupe, the fastback and the convertible. Because the models featured different body designs, each has a different curb weight. - Mustangs equipped with the six-cylinder engine have a total curb weight of approximately 2,695 pounds. Coupes with the eight-cylinder engine weigh in around 2,885 pounds.
- The fastback model weighs slightly more than the coupe due to the added sheet metal along the back of the vehicle that gives the fastback its distinctive appearance. Fastbacks equipped with the six-cylinder engine weigh approximately 2,725 pounds. With the eight-cylinder engine, the fastback tips the scales around 2,915 pounds.
- Because the convertible lacked the structural support of a fixed roof, additional rigidity was added at the frame and is responsible for the increase in weight. Convertibles equipped with the six-cylinder engine weigh approximately 2,855 pounds. With the eight-cylinder engine, the convertible comes in around 3,045 pounds.
