How to Turn Your Computer Into a Hub in Vista
- 1). Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the open port on the Windows Vista computer, and connect the other end to the computer that you will be sharing the Internet connection with. Note that in order for Internet Connection Sharing to work with no additional network hardware, the Windows Vista computer needs to connect to the Internet using something other than the Ethernet card--such as a wireless card--or have two Ethernet cards installed.
- 2). Click the "Start" icon in the bottom corner of the desktop on the Windows Vista computer, and then click "Control Panel."
- 3). Click the "Network and Internet" icon, and then click "Network and Sharing Center." Click the "Manage Network Connections" link on the left side of the window.
- 4). Right-click the Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection icon representing the connection that you use to access the Internet on the Windows Vista computer, and then click "Properties."
- 5). Click the "Sharing" tab.
- 6). Place a check in the box labeled "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
- 7). Click the drop-down menu, and select the Local Area Connection that the second computer is connected to.
- 8). Click "OK."
- 9). Restart the second computer. Open a Web browser and attempt to access the Internet. The second computer should now be able to get online through the first computer.
