    • 1). Remove the clip from the AR-15. Pull the charging handle to the back position to ensure there are no rounds in the chamber. Switch the rifle to "safe."

    • 2). Place the butt of the rifle on a table or bench.

    • 3). Grasp the slip ring with one hand, and pull it downward. The slip ring is the round metal piece between the inside end of the barrel and the body of the rifle.

    • 4). Pull the bottom handguard outward from its base at the point where it is closest to the slip ring. Pull it up and out. Repeat this motion to remove the top handguard.
