Vinegar Solutions

• Full-strength vinegar easily cuts through grease on appliance surfaces. Fill a spray bottle with white or cider vinegar, spray the soiled surface and wipe away the grease with paper towels. For tougher grease build-up, use a vinegar-soaked sponge to remove the grease before wiping it with the towels. To prevent grease buildup, lightly spray all the appliance surfaces with vinegar once a week and wipe them down with paper towels. To make the appliance extra shiny, follow the vinegar treatment with a cold tap water wipe-down.
  
  

Ammonia-based Mixture

• In a spray bottle, mix together 1/2 cup of standard dishwashing liquid, 3 tablespoons of ammonia and 1/2 gallon of warm water and shake until mixed. Spray the greasy appliance surface and let it set for a few minutes to loosen the film. Wipe away the grease, clean the area with warm soap and water and dry with a soft cotton cloth or paper towels until the surface shines.
  
  

WD-40

• Although typically used to loosen screws and bolts, WD-40 also removes tough, built-up grease on appliances. Spray the solution on the grease and scrub the affected area with a nonabrasive pad or brush. When the grease has loosened, remove it with hot soap and water and dry it with a cloth or paper towels.
  
  

Other Grease Removers

• Baking soda cuts through grease and will not harm the paint on appliances. Sprinkle a damp sponge with baking soda, scrub the greasy area and wipe the powdery residue away with a cloth saturated with cool tap water. You can loosen tough, built-up grease on appliances with a paper towel or cloth soaked with vegetable oil and wipe away the grease with baking soda, vinegar or warm soap and water. Heavy concentrations of caked-on grease can be wiped away with phosphate-free TSP, a nontoxic, trisodium phosphate cleaner available at hardware and home improvement stores.
  
  

Cleaning Tools

• Avoid using steel wool or copper scrubbing pads on appliance surfaces as they will scratch or remove the paint or mar stainless steel finishes. Use nylon scrubbers with caution, as they can be abrasive when used in conjunction with cleaning solutions. Soft cotton rags, cloths or paper towels are best for achieving shiny appliance surfaces after grease removal.
