How to Clean Out Your Prefetch Folder With Your Registry

    • 1). Delete the contents of your prefetch folder. Click "Start," then "Run." Type:

      %systemroot%\prefetch and then press "Enter." Your prefetch folder will open in Windows Explorer. Select the entire contents of the folder, right-click and click "Delete."

    • 2). Access the registry editor. Click "Start," then "Run," type "regedit" and press "Enter."

    • 3). Navigate to the following registry key in the left pane: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management. Click the key, then double click the "PrefetchParameters" value in the right pane.

    • 4). Enter "0" and press "Enter." Close the registry editor.
