Summary of Revelation
- Written sometime between A.D. 64 and A.D. 96, Revelation's purpose was to comfort Christians suffering persecution by Jerusalem and Rome. After greeting the seven churches of Asia, Christ reveals the harsh judgment awaiting those who have rejected him.
- Jesus will return to resurrect those who have died but lived a righteous life. They will go with him to a heavenly city, the new Jerusalem.
- Plagues of hail, fire and blood will be unleashed on the earth. Satan and his angels will be imprisoned in an abyss for 1,000 years.
- After the millennium, Jesus will return with new Jerusalem to resurrect the wicked dead, whom Satan will lead in one last war. God will appear to defeat Satan and judge the wicked, sentencing them to burn in a lake of fire.
- After the judgment, a cleansing fire will consume the entire earth, except for new Jerusalem. All wickedness will be eradicated, and God will recreate the earth, returning it to the paradise it once was.
