    • 1). Select a planting site in a sheltered place out of direct wind and sunlight. Choose a site with rich soil.

    • 2). Dig a hole two or three times the size of the pot your giant lobelia plant came in. Mix an equal part of organic compost with one third of the soil you have removed and put it back into the hole.

    • 3). Remove your giant lobelia carefully from its pot. Place it in the hole without disturbing the roots. Fill in the space around the root ball back up to surface level, holding the plant steady as you go.

    • 4). Compact the soil around your giant lobelia with care to eliminate air pockets.

    • 5). Build a circular three inch wall out of soil around your planted giant lobelia. This should be about eight inches away from the plant and will hold irrigation water until it soaks down to the roots.

    • 6). Water your giant lobelia thoroughly, filling the space inside the soil wall with water.
