    • 1). Divide the value in watts by 1,000 to convert it to kilowatts. For example, 5,500 watts is 5.5 kW because 5,500 /1,000 = 5.5.

    • 2). Multiply the kilowatt value by 3,412 to convert kilowatts per hour to British Thermal Units (BTUs).

      For example, 5.5 kilowatts per hour equals 18,766 BTU because 5.5 x 3,412 = 18,766.

    • 3). Divide the number of BTU by one quadrillion, the number of BTU in one quad. The result is the original value in watts converted to quads.

      For example, 18,766 / 1,000,000,000,000,000 = 0.000000000018766, so 5,500 watts = 0.000000000018766 quad.
