- The main function of a church business manager is to handle many of the administrative, business, accounting and computer tasks for the church. Another important function of this person is creating an annual budget each year and assisting the church with sticking to it.
- A business manager handles the accounting responsibilities for the organization. A church is similar to other non-profit organizations. It receives money, has expenses, and pays salaries. Churches do not operate to make a profit, but instead, they operate to spread a religious message to its members and to the community. There are numerous accounting procedures required for churches including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting.

Church leaders use the reports to make financial decisions. The church members often like to review the information to ensure that the church is not misusing the funds it is given.
